Mt. Lemmon, the cool Arizona highlands
Summerhaven, the canyon Destination
Where the Trolls hangout in blissful solitude.
Catch them wandering around their native stomp.
Where crystals produce rainbows 360 days/year.
Where bellstrands and wind chimes converse with the cool breezes
And books patiently await flat land browsers.
Where – The Living Rainbow Gift Shop!
High upon the mountain, Mt. Lemmon to be exact. Rainbows abound. Built from scratch in 1979. Started as a bell strand factory and grew to a unique arts and crafts gift store.
On June 19, 2003, the devastating Aspen Forest Fire swept through the community of Summerhaven on top of Mount Lemmon. The Living Rainbow Store, along with 360 other structures burned to the ground. Books about the mountain and fire are available in the store!
The Living Rainbow never did actually close. The store, on a much smaller scale opened whenever possible in parking lots and driveways.
On June 19, 2004, on the anniversary of the fire, the Living Rainbow moved into temporary dry quarters inside a trailer parked in the Mt. Lemmon General Store parking lot. During the final phases of reconstruction, the trailer was moved to the original site parking lot and remained until the new shop was ready to open.
Construction of the new store began May,04. Check out the links above to see the fire, the temporary quarters and the construction progress.
On Sunday, May 29th, 2005, The Living Rainbow had its Grand Re-Opening Ceremony. Check the photo gallery for rebuild history!
We have wind chimes, Aspen Fire T-shirts, Incense, Crystals, Beads and music CD’s and other gift items available. Come up, come in and browse around.
The store is only 25 miles up the mountain (and 25 degrees cooler) from Tucson.
